.

Please ensure pupils return in full school uniform.. We have allowed students to wear coats and jackets during cold days while we provide adequate ventilation to classrooms. Reopening 15th March 2021 for 5th year students

The Government decided on a phased return of students to in-school education. These phases have been developed in close collaboration with post primary education stakeholders and follow ongoing engagement with the Department of Health and Public Health, HSE. The Department of Health and the HSE have reaffirmed that the gradual phased reopening can proceed as planned.

The DE have confirmed the next phase of return is on Monday March 15th for 5th years in post primary schools.

Reopening 1st March 2021 for 6th year students

The Government announced on 23rd February the phased reopening of schools.

The phase which will commence on Monday 1st March allows for the return of 6th year students (including LCA2)

This is in line with the public health advice received by the Government from NPHET. Intensive engagement and input from education partners representing parents, students, unions, management bodies and principal networks on the plans for reopening of schools has also been ongoing. It is recognised by all of the partners that remote teaching and learning is difficult for all and the return of all children at the earliest opportunity remains a high priority for Government in line with public health advice.

Considerable advice and guidance has been issued to schools. This advice has been fully followed by the Board of Management and staff of Moyne Community School. The updated version of our Covid Response Plan can be found here

Please read all of the information contained on this page to help us ensure the health and safety of all of our students and staff.

ALL PUPILS ARE ASKED TO PRESENT THIS COMPLETED AND SIGNED FORM PRIOR TO OR ON THEIR RETURN TO SCHOOL ON MONDAY 1ST. THIS FORM SHOULD ALSO BE COMPLETED AND RETURNED AFTER OTHER ABSENCES

Information for parents

Short videos for parents presented by public health doctors will be circulated to reaffirm the importance of keeping COVID-19 out of education facilities by keeping symptomatic students at home. Parents should err on the side of caution in this respect and follow the school’s sickness policy

Communications to parents/guardians will emphasise that there should be no congregation outside schools during this phase or at any stage.

Requests to engage with staff should be made through the school and will be provided by telephone or online.

School Procedures

The next number of weeks are very important weeks for the Leaving Certificate class of 2021. We are delighted to welcome the members of that year group back to school on Monday March 1st.

We are determined to do everything in our power to ensure that the rest of the school years runs smoothly but this will require the support and co-operation of every member of the school community.

The following steps have been taken to ensure the health and safety of all students and staff while on the campus of Moyne Community School during the Phased re opening of schools.

We have been guided by the Department of Education and Skills, NPHET and the public health guidelines as determined for Level 5 under the ‘Living with Covid Guidelines’.

It is very important that everyone follows these steps completely and continuously while they are on the school grounds.

Failure to respect these rules endangers the health and safety of every member of the school community and puts students’ preparation for the state examinations at risk.
Masks and movement on the school grounds
Everyone must wear a mask at all times on the school grounds.. Blue surgical masks are the recommended masks for everyone to wear.

There will be two exceptions to this rule:
1. While eating food if the student is seated in their own desk in their own baseroom
2. If a student is walking outside on the Sli na Sláinte and maintaining a 2m distance from one other student.

The Slí na Sláinte is now a one way system and everyone must abide by the new directional signs

There can be no congregating of more than 2 students anywhere on the school grounds and 2m distance must always be maintained

When a student gets off the bus, they must go directly to their base classroom using the correct entrance and the one way system.
They must sit in their designated seat or they can go outside but they must maintain a 2m distance and they can only walk with one other student.

If a student’s first class is in another room and they have touched or sat at their own table in their base room, they should sanitise that table and chair before any other student has to use it.

Students moving from one class to another must follow the one way system regardless of how close the next classroom is..

Malls can never be used to cross from one corridor to the next

If you want to buy food, you may enter the canteen, buy the food, sit down maintaining a 2m distance and eat it.
When you have finished eating, you must leave the canteen immediately following the one-way system.

The canteen is not a social or communal space. You can only enter and remain in the canteen to buy and eat food

If your first class is in the base room, you remain there. If your first class is in another room, you should leave the base room at 8.55am and go to the other room.

Students can never enter another base room unless they have class in it.

The picnic benches on the school grounds can accommodate 2 students at any time

In this re opening phase, students cannot engage in any form of sport at break or lunch times.

Hand Hygiene, sanitising and ventilation
Students should use the hand sanitisers on their way into school every day and at the end of every class.
Students should also ensure that they properly sanitise the chair and table they have been using and dispose of the blue paper carefully.
Students should avoid touch points such as door handles or sharing school materials as much as possible and sanitise immediately afterwards
The 9B base room has been moved to the library and the 10B base room has been moved to the Blue Mall 1. Both of these rooms are larger and they have two exits as well as ample ventilation.
The exits at the front and rear of the school will remain open throughout the day to increase the level of ventilation throughout the school.
At 11am and 1.20pm, additional windows will be opened to ventilate the rooms during break time
Symptoms or feeling unwell
Moyne community School is Covid free at this moment and if everyone plays their part we can keep it Covid free.

If a student has any symptoms while at home or if anyone at home has symptoms or if they have been in contact with anyone who has symptoms, they should not come to school.

If a student feels unwell during school, they should immediately alert a member of staff.

They will be escorted out of the building by the shortest route and brought to the isolation room.

Their parents/guardians will be contacted immediately and we expect them to be collected from the isolation room within 30 minutes.

Schools have been asked to prevent Introduction and Spread of COVID-19 in Schools and to
  • Advise staff and pupils to self-isolate or restrict their movements at home if they display any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 and contact their family doctor to arrange a test
  • Advise staff and pupils not to return to or attend school in the event of the following:
    • if they are identified by the HSE as a close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19
    • if they live with someone who has symptoms of the virus
    • If they have travelled outside of Ireland; in such instances staff are advised to consult and follow latest Government advice in relation to foreign travel.
  • Advise staff and pupils to cooperate with any public health officials and the school for contact tracing purposes and follow any public health advice in the event of a case or outbreak in the school.
