Agreed Report January 2013 Meeting Moyne Community School The Board congratulated all involved in the preparations and organization of the recent Open Night for 5th and 6th class pupils who are considering enrolling in Moyne Community School. A vote of congratulations was passed to the school junior Rugby Squad and coaches on their recent success winning the Leinster Junior Development Schools title. The Board acknowledges the visit of DES Inspectorate to speak to the teaching staff regarding the requirements of the School Self Evaluation process. It has been agreed previously that the first topic in this process would be Literacy. As next months meeting will mark the 40th Anniversay of the first meeting of the Board of Management of Moyne Community School it was agreed to compile an accurate list of all who have served on the Board and contributed to the development of the school. An event to mark their contribution will be considered.
Agreed Report February 2013 Meeting Moyne Community School This was the 40th anniversary of the first meeting of the Board of Management of Moyne Community School. The minutes of that first meeting held on 20th February 1973 at 8pm in St Marys Secondary School were read by the secretary. It was agreed that there would be a suitable occasion organized in August/September to mark the contribution of all of those who have served as board members over the last 40 years. Irish scholarships have been offered in previous years. It was agreed to offer 6 scholarships to the value of €590 each again this year.Competition for these scholarships will be organized by the language departments.
Agreed Report March/April 2013 Meeting Moyne Community School The Board has approved a new draft of the School Code of Behaviour. While containing very few changes of substance it is presented in a much more positive manner with clear explanations of the rules and the reasoning behind them, the supports in place in the school, the interventions that may be employed and finally the sanctions that may be imposed.
The Board discussed the issue of elearning and the introduction of IT to replace school book. While there are pros and cons to any decision the board would like to research options more before making a decision that makes sense financially, educationally and practically.
The Board welcomes the initiative of the Parent Association to host two informationevenings on the 18th April and 2nd May on the topics of Understanding Teenagers and Social Media and the Internet.
The examination season is now upon us and arrangements have been made for practical and oral examinations. The board wishes well all students as they enter this final phase of the school year and examination process
Agreed Report May 2013 Meeting Moyne Community School The Board at its May meeting congratulated the Transition Year students and teachers on the fantastic Awards Night held in the school on Monday 20th May. Their presentations and performances reflected the high quality of work carried out once again in the Transition Year Program. They were also wished well on their trip to Barcelona. The Board wishes to acknowledge the work of Moyne’s Parent Association in running two important information evenings for parents on the topics “Social Media” and “Understanding Teenagers”. The Board is also very grateful for their generous donation of €4000 towards the refurbishment of the school library. A decision was taken to put the running of the school canteen out to tender. This process is carried out every few years and will be advertised in the local media. The Board concluded its meeting by wishing all of the Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate students well in next month’s state examinations.
Agreed Report August 2013 Meeting Moyne Community School
Mr Michael Denning a nominee of Bishop Colm O’Reilly was elected Chairperson of the Board of Management for the 2013-2014 school year. Ms L Fahy was elected as Vice Chairperson.
The Board welcomed the results of the Leaving Certificate and congratulated staff and students on their success. Particular congratulations were paid to Jack Williamson on achieving 615 points. The Board wishes all of the class of 2013 every success in their futures.
A number of works to the school were completed over the summer including painting, road markings and paths. This has continued on from the work over the last number of years.
The Board approved the appointment of a number of new staff and wish them well in their time in Moyne. Special thanks were paid to Mr Peter Crossan, Mr Larry Morrissey and Ms Greta Keegan who all retired over the summer months.
It is hoped to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Board of Management shortly. The school will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2014 however it was agreed that the dedication of all who have served on the board since 1973 should be remembered.
Agreed Report September 2013 Meeting Moyne Community School The Board wish to congratulate staff and student on the Junior Certificate results recently received.
A new online method of paying school bill will soon be offered to parents as an option. This facility will be managed through the company that provided the text messaging service and will be trialled shortly.
The start of year Mass is to take place on 25th September and to be celebrated by Bishop Colm O'Reilly. The Chairperson will make a presentation to the Bishop to mark his retirement and in appreciation of his Patronage over the last 30 years
The Board acknowledge that a book rental scheme has been organized in a number of subject areas. The school has also received 1700 free copies of past examination papers from Folens and are being distributed to students. Discussions are on-going at staff and board level regarding the possibility of introducing IT/tablets for students. There are divergent opinions and many members were researching experiences in other schools.
Agreed Report October 2013 Meeting Moyne Community School
The Board have received and considered the report from the DES following the Mathematics Subject Inspection last year. The Board are pleased that the inspector found the provision of Maths in the school as good and that the quality of teaching and learning has been recognized. The board are also pleased that the recommendations of the report have already been implemented fully.
The School is now working in with Longford Westmeath ETB as an Outreach Centre in the provision of ICT Courses. Two courses Computers for Farmers and Basic Computer skills will run until Christmas. It was agreed that the board would look favourably on school facilities being used for any Adult Education Courses run by the ETB
Jack Williamson who achieved 615 point in Leaving Certificate 2013 is to receive an All Ireland Scholarship on 9th November in the University of Limerick. The Principal was particularly proud that a student from Moyne has won a scholarship in 5 of the 6 years of the scholarships.
The Board congratulates the YSI committee who in conjunction with the School of Education DCU has launched an Intergenerational project. This project will see YSI members interacting with older members of the local community in the areas of ICT, Dance, Art and local studies. The Board are grateful to DCU for sponsoring laptop computers for the project and for mentoring the students
